Software as a Service (SaaS)6 Minute Reading Time

There is one drawback with affiliate or informative items: they do not appeal to everyone.

A good digital information product can provide a lot of value to the end user, and some people like the knowledge that an eBook can provide.

However, there is a great deal of nonsense out there. Some eBooks are simply awful, and they have a bad reputation as a result. Similarly, some people find it humorous to sell something that anyone with the required knowledge could make. eBooks are also plentiful, making it difficult to discern between them and determine their worth.

That’s before we take into account the fact that much of the content in an eBook is often available for free online.

You can build something a little more ambitious in the form of software in that case. The general public is considerably more used to spending money on software and programmes, making it much easier to communicate the value of something that, for example, manages your contacts or performs complex math.

Software, on the other hand, shares many of the same benefits as information products, such as a low cost of goods sold (COGS) and the absence of costly materials.

Software can be paid for in a variety of ways, which may make it more desirable to some users…

How Can Software Help You Make Money?

Of course, one of the easiest and most easy methods to monetize software is to sell it. This can be rather diverse in terms of scope and expense.

For example, when acquired in its whole, a piece of software like Sony Vegas (video editing software) will set you back several hundred dollars. On the other hand, ‘apps,’ which will cost 50 cents on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, are available.

Of course, targeting the latter market is far more straightforward – a little app is less expensive to develop and maintain, and you’ll have a terrific route to market (and payment option) in the form of those stores.

Meanwhile, advertising is another way to make money with an app. This method involves giving the software away for free but earning money from people who watch or click on an ad that appears on top of it.

Going the SaaS route is a completely different option. This stands for ‘Software As A Service,’ and it simply indicates you’re charging a recurring charge for software access, comparable to a subscription.

The dating website Match.com is a fantastic example (www.match.com). Others will frequently offer a free membership to tempt potential customers, then encourage them to upgrade to a paid membership in order to gain access to more features. This may be seen in services like Dropbox (www.dropbox.com), Evernote (www.evernote.com), and Feedly (www.feedly.com) (www.feedly.com).

How to Create Computer Software from Scratch

Software development, on the other hand, will be more challenging than creating an information product. The question is how much of a risk you’re willing to take on.

If you’re going to build a mobile app, it’ll cost you very little money and should be something that the majority of your readers can perform. If you want to establish a SaaS business model, on the other hand, you’ll have to put in a lot more effort.

Because creating software that can be utilised as a service usually means creating something that runs in a browser and is cloud-ready, this is the case. Users must be able to log in from anywhere, change files, connect with others, and so on.

This implies your software will have to run on a server, which complicates matters right away because you’ll need to understand how servers work as well as a variety of coding languages to control what’s going on behind the scenes (known as the ‘backend’). You’ll also be responsible for dealing with customer complaints and possible errors, as well as providing general service. This is not a passive paradigm, and the barrier to entrance is much greater.

Creating a SaaS model, on the other hand, means you’ll have a lot more guaranteed income and may be able to earn a lot more per customer. Starting with something much simpler, such as a mobile app, then working your way up to more complex issues, such as a web app, is the greatest advice.

In any event, you’ll need to either learn programming or hire someone to help you. You can outsource your program’s development to Fiverr and UpWork once more. Keep in mind that if you’re beginning a SaaS company, you’ll need a ‘full stack developer,’ which implies someone who understands everything from HTML and CSS (web design languages) to PHP and Linux. In other words, they must understand each stage of the development process as well as each component that contributes to cloud software’s seamless operation. You’ll almost probably need to recruit a team if you can’t find a true full stack developer.

Finding a mobile app developer will be a little easier. However, look at a sample of their work first, and if possible, identify someone who lives in your area so you can work on the same computer. You will save a large amount of time as a result of this.

Do-it-yourself (Do It Yourself)

But what are your possibilities if you want to create your own software?

Unfortunately, this is a big question that can’t be answered here. To summarise, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of programming languages to learn, and the best one for you depends purely on your skill level and the nature of your project. To make an Android app, you’ll need to know Java and how to use the Android SDK, for example. However, if you’re making a PC game, learning Unity, which requires some C# coding, is likely to be the most straightforward option.

As previously noted, creating a web app is a huge undertaking that will necessitate knowledge of HTML and CSS, as well as PHP, Python, Ruby, and a number of frameworks.

This isn’t to say it’s impossible to learn to code. Accept that no one-size-fits-all solution exists and that it will take time. If you’re new to coding, a modest project is a good place to start. Purchase a book, do a lot of Googling, and begin with anything simple as a learning exercise.

Another option is to use a programme known as a ‘app builder.’ They are, however, limited in what they can do and will not be suitable for most internet business ideas.

As a result, this option is slightly more challenging than the other two. Still, if you can create something truly great and unique, you’ll have contributed significantly to the web, and you should be proud of that! And, while it’s unlikely, it could make you really wealthy!

See you in the next post.
